A Bar in Amstel Hotel Amsterdam; where classic meets contemporary.
The latest edition in the Union Lounge, A contemporary recipe inspired by a classic made at the beautiful InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam hotel.
A Bar is set in the beautiful Amstel hotel. Since the late 1800’s this has been one of Amsterdam’s most prestigious venues. Overlooking the Amstel River, this bar is a credited as the hotel bar offering personal service and a wide range of beverages. There’s a great selection of Dutch spirits on the bar and the brand new cocktail menu which was launched this May, is based on famous neighbourhoods in Amsterdam.
The cocktail called “Overhoeks” featuring Union 55 rum is a creation by Bar Manager Roel Balvers. Inspired by the modern building called Eye in an area called “overhoeks”. The Eye museum preserves classic movies, but looking super modern on the outside. A twisted classic with ginger and popcorn syrup. This relates back to the movies shown at the Eye museum. Undoubtedly, the Eye Film museum is one of the most iconic modern buildings in Amsterdam. Located right at the waterfront of the IJ river, called Overhoeks, it’s hard to miss. Inspired by the way this Film museum conserves classic film history. He’s created a modern take on a famous classic. Taking the famous rum and ginger combination as a starting point and combining it with sweet and salty popcorn syrup, fresh lime juice, topped off with Fever Tree’s smokey ginger ale.
The flavour profile of the cocktail is fresh and zingy, with a light sweet and smokey finish. The cocktail is accompanied with a small tray of popcorn, hinting to the cinema aspect of the Eye Museum.
